hurry boy it’s waiting there for you

Another week of quarantine. Been doing ok. As long as I stay off news sites, reddit front page, facebook and twitter I’m ok. Although instagram yesterday said “hey, you’ve liked 3 posts tagged #quarantine this week, would you like to follow this hashtag?”

Getting down to only “emergency” rations of food so put in a giant shipt order for today, here’s hoping we get everything because I want to make some mashed potatoes.

Let’s do the Animal Crossing chat first. It’s been an exciting 24 hours on EPCOT island. Last night, I used a nookmiles ticket and arrived at the ACTUAL TARANTULA ISLAND. Not one you turn into a tarantula island by digging everything up and forcing them to spawn. Oh no this place was CRAWLING with them.

There’d often be 2-3 in the same area, there’s 2 looking at me in the pic above. So I’d catch one and immediately get attacked by another. But I did get a lot better at catching them.

I abandoned all my tools except my net (I tried to swap it with the last tarantula and it wouldn’t let me) and went home with my pockets full of these gross things. Made 312,000 bells. I WANNA GO AGAIN!

Then this morning – KK Slider concert!!! And i got my terraforming tool. Exciting.

Also Chase decided to use his birthday money to buy his own Switch Lite so he can play too.

This is how it’s been every night the past week.

The 2nd room in my house is a representation of my psychosis. Dragoncon carpet floor, sewing machines, a ton of costumes everywhere. I have a little ironing kit too, and Ash gave me a sewing kit. I need a bigger table!

I’ve since changed it, the Dcon carpet was too much LOL. My 3rd room is bunny day crap. I’m so ready for bunny day to be over so I can stop only getting eggs when fishing.

So let’s get to the sewing segment. First up, I “finished” the Padme nightgown last Monday night:

I’m decently proud of the clips I made for the back panels.

Because it’s all just made out of random crap I found in my sewing room. Clip-on earring bases painted gold, leftover pearl cabochans, some beads I also painted gold and loose pearl beads.

Chase is just ordering some 3d printed pieces for the brooch and hairpiece. So next up was shoes. I ordered a half yard of blue velour on etsy, it arrived and was a bit more “baby blue” than I anticipated, was way more saturated than the dress. I threw it in a tiny bit of graphite dye and it turned out really well. I wish I’d taken a “before” photo but didn’t think about it.

Dug up these old slippers I bought prob 20 years for a costume but never used. I think they were back up because I couldn’t find my plain black ones. They’ve been living in my 2002 Padme Lake Dress/2003 Loyalist Committee bin for at least a decade. Time to put them to use.

Made a really rough mockup out of scrap material.

Refined a bit more.

Since the velour has some stretch to it the actual cut pieces ended up being too big, had to take them up a good bit, especially at the back seam.

I ended up cutting the straps off the base shoes, I couldn’t cover the straps and have it still fit through the buckle on the other side. So I decided I’d try to make them work without straps, and make some if I felt like I needed it.

Also, if I EVER do wear this anywhere, I’ll have to put some grips on the bottom of these shoes. The bottom panel is also velour. Slip and slide!

Once I had the 2 main pieces sewn together and fitting the shoe right, I hand-sewed the top edge down onto the shoe. Easy with these base shoes since they’re fabric.

And I did end up having to add straps. I just made a small tube of the same fabric, sewed it to one side, and added a snap for it to connect to on the other side.
Thought about adding some crystals or beading to the top but that’d be for another day.

I realized that I never actually tried this costume on. So…

Glad I did because one side of the pearl swags is hanging way lower than the other. I’ll have to remove some of the pearls to even them up. (Viewer’s right)

So all that’s let for Padme is ordering those pieces, finishing them, and fixing those pearls.
Then I’ve got 2 wig options for this. Taking everything out of my funeral Padme wig (ugh, all the flowers and ribbons are wired into place…) or seeing if my newer Arwen wig would work. Not buying anything new so it’s going to be one of those options. Probably my funeral Padme wig since taking all that stuff out would mean I could finally brush it properly.

So onto the next project.
That’s been my thing lately. Getting something 99% done and then moving on without getting it to 100%. See my blue glitter Leia. It’s totally done except finishing up the jewely. Like simple stuff like putting a closure on the back of the necklace. I’ll get to it.

So, last week, we did reschedule our Disney trip. We were supposed to be going first week of May for dapper day and I’m utterly devastated. But Disney made it really easy to change the dates. Chase called them up and they were able to move us out. Now I’ll have to rebook dining and fastpasses.

But I’m still working on our dapper day outfits, because we’ll wear them eventually. So starting with mine…

Using the same pattern I used for Bespin Leia disneybound last year; except I’m only using the skirt portion and I’ll make a waistband for it. I liked the skirt shape and it’s what I wanted for this one.
Cut the petticoat lining out of some red lining material I had on hand.

Before quarantine I bought the rest of the skirt materials; a bunch of yardage of yellow tulle and the main skirt fabric. Tried to do the ruffle out of just tulle but it wasn’t enough lift. But it was cute.

So I did a full ruffle out of the red lining. This went MUCH faster than when I did this on Bespin Leia disneybound last year.

And then went ahead and cut up the rest of my tulle and did another layer of it on top of the ruffle. All of this will be under the skirt but it’ll be cute when I twirl.

And then here’s the actual skirt. Just plain yellow satin.

Next up I moved onto the top. I decided to cut a quick mockup to make sure it was going to fit ok.

VERY Winnie the Pooh but that’s not what I’m making LOL.

I did get all the pieces for the actual top cut and partially assembled last night, but ran into a roadblock attaching one of the pieces – the pattern directions WERE NOT CLEAR – finally figured it out just before bedtime last night so I’m hoping to continue the fast progress tonight now that I’m past that.

Other random stuff.

Mom coming in with the good ideas:

Although that would mean actually sitting down and watching all of Voyager. I’ve only seen eps here and there. I was planning to do that and DS9 after we finish TNG anyway. Which we need to get back to.

Saturday afternoon we went for a long drive out into country areas we weren’t familiar with. Got lunch at a local spot doing to-go. It was good. Saw these retro gas pumps near there.

Sunday did some yard work, and did some stuff around the house including finally hanging curtains and blinds in my work office so I’m not blinded by the sun every morning.

This week planning on finishing my dress above, getting started on Chase’s matching look, and then moving into working on
